Freyja has been active in the strength and conditioning industry in Canada for over a decade, working with a wide variety of athletes from olympic skaters, professional Ballet dancers, weightlifters, endurance athletes, and weekend warriors alike. She is among Canada’s first cohort of Animal Flow instructors and Canada’s first Master instructor. Additionally, she runs a successful independent training business and is a Lead Instructor for DTS Fitness Education, delivering courses to fitness professionals across the country.
She attended the University of Guelph for an Honours BSc in Human Kinetics, with a focus on nutrition and clinical biomechanics. While at Guelph, she had the unique opportunity to work for the Health and Performance Centre, thus beginning her involvement with fitness testing, athletic programs for kids, injury rehabilitation, and athletic development through strength training. She has since worked for one of Canada’s largest Sports Medicine Clinics, using functional training to return clients to a strong and pain-free day-to-day life.
Passion for Fitness
Freyja’s passion for teaching and movement stems from a career in dance that started at the age of two and continued to a pre-professional level. In an attempt to gain strength and rehabilitate her own injuries, her passion extended into exploring a myriad of other forms of movement to include Olympic weightlifting, Kettlebells, gymnastics, rock climbing, cycling, and running. Animal Flow has not only served as a way to rediscover fluidity of movement in her training reminiscent of dance, but also as a counterbalance to her endurance races and weightlifting. She takes pride in continuing education and is always striving to help clients live stronger, healthier and injury-free lives.
