There are many ways to incorporate Animal Flow®!
Animal Flow in general is a versatile practice that can be used as a stand-alone workout, incorporated into other fitness routines, or used as a group class. Find an Animal Flow Instructor.
Fitness professionals can become Certified Animal Flow instructors through the Level 1 Workshop, which covers everything you need to know about the basics of the program. Level 2 workshops offer even more advanced training for individuals who want to master more difficult components.
Animal Flow for Group Classes
Animal Flow is easily adapted into several variations for group classes. It can be offered as a large group class where individuals can participate whenever they want, whether they are new to the practice or experienced (like most group fitness classes offered at gyms). It can also be offered in cohort format, where a group of individuals commits to a regular schedule for a designated length of time (usually 8-12 weeks) and progress in skill level together.
Find an Animal Flow class near you.
Certified Animal Flow instructors who are specifically interested in the group class format can order the additional Group Class Format e-book for guidance in developing a curriculum that addresses their specific style. Additionally, the premier membership includes new, pre-designed class formats each month. The pre-designed classes are designed around teaching the class a new flow each month, with the exercise selections changing to reflect the elements included in that month’s flow. This way your students will be able to progress their skills learning a new flow each month, keeping it fun and fresh, while still allowing for newcomers. In March 2015, we will release a sample 8-week and 12-week curricula for cohort-style classes.
Animal Flow for kids
Moving around in the animal forms, including traveling apes, crabs, and beasts, makes exercise incredibly fun. These traveling forms are also great drills for teams to use as warms-ups and conditioning drills. Kids are also quick to learn the simple moves included in the flow components, and following along as a teacher or coach calls out the sequential moves is like playing a big game of Simon Says. This is an easy way for schools and teams to add a fun, effective exercise tool to existing programs, since no new equipment is required.
Physical education teachers and team coaches who want to learn how to properly teach the moves, including regressions and progressions, should become a Certified Animal Flow Instructor through the Level 1 Workshop. We will soon offer an additional e-book that includes sample workouts, drills, and flows tailored to different age levels.
Animal Flow for MMA Training
Animal Flow is a great tool for fighters in training, or athletes who just want to train like fighters do. The workshops are popular with both MMA athletes and coaches alike. When using Animal Flow with an MMA training regime, you would incorporate elements into your existing routine, so that the practice complements and supplements your strength training and your fight-specific skill training.
We offer an e-Book, Animal Flow for Fighters, which offers a detailed roadmap for how to incorporate the Animal Flow practice into your training. It includes an overview of the basics to get you going, followed by chapters addressing different types of training including Strength and Conditioning; Aerobic and Anaerobic Training; and Accessory Training (Climbing and Brachiation – aka swings). It also covers the all-important movement preparation and injury prevention! Lots of photos, instructions, reference videos, drills, and sample workout plans are included.
This is a great book for MMA fighters who want to get into the basics on their own. It is also a useful supplement to the information provided in the workshops for Certified Instructors.
